Fight Before Christmas event at Newark Showground promoted by Carl Greaves to feature Dec Spelman, Tom Cowling, Stanley Stannard, Emma Dolan, Connor Meanwell, Jamie Behan, Tom Pogson, Sonny Price and others
The Fight Before Christmas event at Newark Showground on December 16 and will feature several prominent boxers, including former English light-heavyweight champion Dec Spelman.
The event is being organised by Carl Greaves, who said it was important that he put on a good show in his hometown and that a sterling line-up was on the cards for fight fans.
“I’m always pleased to promote in my home town,” he said.
“This bill includes a lot of up-and-coming fighters including exciting prospects and it represents a real value for money for spectators.
“The night will feature an 11-fight card with all of the home fighters managed by myself.
“All of the local fighters are trained by myself and Adam Kettleborough.
“The card features Newark boxer Connor Meanwell making his professional debut and unbeaten Newark fighter Tom Cowling who is currently 8-0.
“Sonny Price will also fight on the card, he is undefeated in nine fights and unbeaten female fighter Emma Dolan will be fighting in her fifth fight after relocating here from Norwich.
“Tom Pogson will also be making his debut in the event.”
Pogson who recently celebrated the birth of his first daughter, Bonnie, is currently travelling down from Boston two to three times a week to train under Greaves.
“I am looking forward to the event,” he said.
“My home town has really got behind me and I have a lot of support, especially from Sibsey and Boston Town football clubs," said Pogson.
“A lot of people are coming down from Boston and I have some support here in Newark as well.
“It is especially great to see such support during the cost of living crisis, I have sold over 140 tickets.”

Meanwell said he is looking forward to making his professional debut in front of his home crowd.
“I can’t wait for the upcoming show and to make my anticipated debut, especially on such a big event,” he said.
“I’m feeling eager now, where I want to get on with the fight and perform.
“Being a local lad making my professional debut in my hometown is truly a gift and it will definitely be one to remember when I look back at it.
“I get a lot of support from Newark and I really appreciate it.
“I can’t wait to get into the ring in front of all my friends and family.
“The preparation has been going great, I have been getting some great sparring and world-class training.”
Newark boxer Tom Cowling will also be boxing infront of his home crowd as he looks to go 9-0.
Stanley Stannard will be fighting in his tenth bout in the upcoming show.
“This will be my third fight in Newark and I’ve got good support coming to see me box once again,” said Stannard: “I am very grateful to my fans who are coming out the week before Christmas to watch me gain another win on my journey to the top."
Dolan said she is eager for her first fight with Greaves as her trainer.
“It’s going to be a great first fight under Carl and I can’t wait to show what we’ve been working on in the gym,” she said.
