Nottinghamshire club provide free training for juniors and subsidised fees for senior players in quest to keep people able to play sport during cost of living crisis




Amid a cost of living crisis, one local sporting club is determined to remove financial barriers to people wanting to participate in sport.

South Nottingham Hockey Club which is over 60 years old, fields four male, one female, and numerous junior teams.

A recent annual general meeting held by the club resolved that costs would continue to be kept down for those wanting to play.

The club alumnus have provided sponsorship as well as donations to continue to support access to Hockey for all in the Bingham and Grantham areas

"We are the cheapest hockey club in Nottinghamshire," said club Junior coordinator Andy Wallace.

All children players at the club have no playing fees and are given excellent training by Matt Taylor who played for England and is the current Nottingham University coach.

Adults are given a full kit for free and pay subsidised fees.

"We are a competitive but friendly club," said Wallace.

"We are looking at potentially recruiting more juniors.

"The club is constantly expanding.

"No skills are required to join and enjoy the game with us.
