Southwell City FC unveil their season strips with a nod to the past
A football club has gone back to its roots by embracing an away strip that pays homage to its past.
Southwell City, known as The Zebras, predominantly play in a black-and-white strip, which justifies their nickname.
The home kit will again feature this style but the team has gone in a completely different direction with their away shirt.
With claret reportedly being the first colour they ever played in back in the 1800s, Southwell has embraced history sporting an all-claret away kit with gold trim and numbers.
The unveiling has drawn positive comments on social media and a club spokesman said they loved their new shirts.
"The home shirt is a classic, we think it is the best we have done," said a club spokesman about their new home shirt.
"The away kit is great, and claret is clearly the historic colour of Southwell, we are very happy with the new kits."
Other teams in the area have sported the claret colour with Southwell Rugby Club still using it today.
