Southwell Cricket Club make it four wins in a row in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire Cricket League

A side continues their fight back towards promotion with another win in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire Cricket League.

Southwell who dropped down from Division C last year secured a convincing 73-run victory over Notts Unity Casuals to make it four wins on the trot.

Southwell welcomed Notts Unity to Top Ground as the visitors won the toss and elected to field.

This suited the Southwell batting order to a tee as they hit 255 off their 45 overs for a loss of five wickets.

Opener Thomas Glenn hit an impressive 73 while captain Jonathan Butler contributed 39 before being bowled.

Sam Barber came in fifth and steadied the team with a well-rounded 63 not out as he guided his side to a solid run total.

After hitting 28 with the bat, Ollie Stanley stood up for Southwall and took four quick wickets with the ball at a cost of only 24 runs.

It took the Southwell bowling attack 36 overs to dismiss Notts Unity as the visitors could only manage to post 182.

"We are performing well as a team and are all buoyed by having won four consecutive matches," said captain Jonathan Butler.

"Whilst tough games are still to come, we are pleased to be higher up the table at this stage of the season."

The side currently lies in fourth place and will host Chilwell at home on Saturday at 1pm.
