Collingham comeback to rescue point against title favourites Thorne Colliery — and help Newark Town in the process
Collingham have paid local rivals Newark Town a huge favour ahead of derby day after taking points from their title rivals on Tuesday night.
Gary Clark’s Collingham side fought back from 2-0 down to rescue a point against the CML North Premier Division title favourites Thorne Colliery at Station Road, drawing 2-2.
Having fallen 2-0 down inside the opening 15 minutes, the Bees did well to keep themselves in the tie as they mounted a second-half comeback through a Will Hollingsworth brace.
Clark praised his side’s performance, which featured four 16 year olds.
“Two-nil down against the best team we’ve seen this season and to rally and get back in the game was phenomenal,” he said.
Last Saturday, however, didn’t go as plan as Collingham lost 7-2 at Staveley Miners’ Welfare Reserves.
Clark said:“It was simply one of those days. When it doesn’t go your way, it really doesn’t.
“We have dragged ourselves from near enough bottom of the table to comfortably mid-table and that is down to our hard work so we don’t want to let linger and let one result derail that progress.”
Kieran Job and Jo Jo Bilton were Collingham’s scorers in the defeat.
This weekend, they travel to Newark Town (3pm).
