Emma Dolan looking forward to contesting the vacant Commonwealth super-flyweight title at Carl Greaves' 150th show in Newark with Tom Cowling going for a 10-0 record
Headliner Emma Dolan says she is looking forward to contesting the vacant Commonwealth super-flyweight title at Carl Greaves' 150th show in the Lady Eastwood Pavillion at Newark Showground on Saturday.
Dolan is up against two-time world title challenger Halima Vunjabei from Tanzania.
"I am over the moon to be fighting for the Commonwealth title," said Dolan.
"I am very grateful to Carl for sorting out the opportunity.
"I am excited to get in the ring and win the title."
Dolan knows that the Tanzanian is a formidable opponent who has been in the fight game for a long time but the 4-0 boxer is confident she can secure her fifth professional win.
Dolan relocated last year from Norwich to Newark to train under Carl Greaves and to progress her career.
"Halima is an aggressive come-forward fighter," said Dolan.
"I've watched a few of her fights and I think it will be a good bout.
"I am looking forward to fighting against her and showcasing my skills.
"It's going to be a great experience fighting on Carl's 150th card which will be contested right here in Newark.
"Having Carl as my trainer has been great, he is a fantastic trainer and a good friend.
"Carl deserves a lot of credit because he genuinely looks after his fighters."
Fellow Carl Greaves stablemate Tom Cowling is a Newark native who is no stranger to fighting in front of his home crowd with his appearance on Saturday being the fourth time he has fought in Newark.
"It is always great fighting in my hometown of Newark," said Cowling.
"I am feeling fit and confident, the training has gone well."
Cowling will be looking to go 10-0 in his next bout and remain undefeated.
"You can never stop learning," said Cowling.
"I feel like I am being moved up nicely, the progression is a natural one.
"It is great having a trainer I can trust with my career in Carl.
Cowling said that he has been training to box more technically, working on combinations and pad work.
Another Newarker who trains under Carl Greaves, Connor Meanwell said his bout is personal after losing against upcoming opponent Ryan Rose in the amateurs via a split decision.
"I am looking forward to correcting this by coming away with the win this time," said Meanwell.
"The last fight between us was a cracking up, close and personal dog fight that was a great one for spectators to watch.
"This time I will be taking the win."
