Defeat in game of two halves

The Newark Hockey Club Men’s 1st XI crashed to a 4-1 defeat in East Midlands One after pinning hosts Ramgarhia in their own half for most of the first period at Derby.

Newark looked solid in the middle, with the tireless Dave Burnell working well with captain Ben Brown.

Steve Littlewood was causing the home side all sorts of problems down the right and the strikeforce of Ian Sellers and Nathan Wakeland constantly looked threatening.

Despite this dominance, Newark struggled to convert the abundance of chances that came their way but they were patient and persistent in equal measure.

Midway through the first half a penalty corner gave Burnell the opportunity to open the scoring and he made it two goals in two games.
