Newark's Adam Dixon missed out on a place in the Commonwealth Games men's hockey final after England were beaten 4-1 by reigning world champions Australia.
Australia, who have won every gold medal since men's hockey was introduced to the Games in 1998, led 2-0 after 11 minutes through Tristan White and Simon Orchard.
England's Harry Martin gave his team hope but Chris Ciriello and Eddie Ockenden sealed Australia's win.
England will play for the bronze medal tomorrow (Sunday). They will face either New Zealand or India.
