Gamble exceeds expectations in first season of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
Epperstone’s British Touring Car Championship racer George Gamble finished the season as runner-up in the Jack Sears Trophy after last weekend’s racing at Brands Hatch, writes Paul Horton.
Both Gamble, his team-mate Adam Morgan and team, Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport team saw both of their two BMW 330 e M Sports touring cars run well throughout the weekend to complete the season.
This was after the last few rounds had seen a few gremlins hamper Gamble’s performance.
Free practice on Saturday saw Gamble on it as usual from the start, and the 26-year-old racer finished eighth fastest.
He was the fastest independent driver on track, with his team-mate not far behind in ninth.
Gamble finished the second session in 13th place after being handed a time disadvantage for exceeding track limits.
Morgan finished proceedings off in the eighth spot.
Race one saw Gamble line up on the grid on row seven, and a great start saw him make up two places by the end of the first lap.
Morgan finished sixth and Gamble eighth.
Race two saw Gamble again make up a place during lap one.
There followed a battle with team-mate Morgan for the next eight laps with Colin Turkington in the mix at one stage.
On lap ten it was an advantage for Gamble to overtake Morgan, only for Morgan to take place back and Gamble to cross the line in seventh.
A time penalty was given to Gamble that pushed him back into the 11th spot.
Gamble started race three on row six.
After a tough race, Gamble finished in a well-deserved sixth.
Gamble said: “It has been a great first season. Never did I think getting an outright win and a podium along the way would be possible.
“I did have some bad luck but overall I learned so much in my first year looking forward to working hard over the winter to get back on the grid next season.”
He finished his maiden championship 13th in the standings, fourth in the independents’ contest, and second in the Jack Sears Trophy.
Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport take 13th in the teams’ championship and second in the Independent Teams’ standings.
