Eight-goal salvo reverses fortunes
Newark Ladies were on the warpath on Saturday after a fortnight of negative results — and it showed at the Magnus as they thrashed Towcester by eight goals.
On 14 minutes Newark forced a penalty corner and a well-rehearsed routine was dispatched at close range by Megan Beard.
Six minutes later Beard doubled her tally when Jemma Gough turned over possession, and threaded a neat ball into her path.
Beard then turned provider, unselfishly slipping the ball to Sarah Pask, who made no mistake from close-range.
Ten minutes later Newark forced a penalty corner and Gough drilled her effort off target but it was deflected in by Becky Taylor.
Sarah Pask scored her second with just seconds of the half remaining.
Newark’s sixth came as Holly Powell stole possession deep in her own half, setting up a counter-attack, from which Emma Sanders capitalised to score.
Megan Beard completed her hat-trick in the 62nd minute before Nicola Jenner added an eighth late on.
