Fernwood Foxes celebrate success in European football tournament

A grassroots football club from Newark has tasted success in a European tournament.

Fernwood Foxes under-10s and under-13s earned third and second place finishes respectively in Holland, where they competed against six different nations in the Netherlands Open.

Fernwood chairman Simon Haywood organised the event for both Fernwood and Grantham Town, whose under-14s side earned a second-place finish in their respective group.

“We played in a tournament against academy sides from six different countries, including Boston Bolts from the USA and Vitesse Arnhem from Holland,” he said.

“We performed brilliantly against academy and pre-academy sides from Germany, Denmark and England over in Holland, with all of our sides bringing some silverware home to celebrate.”

The tournament took place over one weekend.
