South Nottinghamshire Cricket League round-up

A superb seven-wicket haul from Josh Evans helped Southwell to a vital victory in the South Nottinghamshire League on Saturday.

Evans took 7-36 from a terrific 12-over spell as Southwell moved out of the bottom two relegation places in Division D after a seven-run win at bottom-of-the-table Attenborough 3rds.

They were dismissed for 143 after losing the toss with Dan Stokes and Joe Fryer their top scorers with 37 and 36 respectively.

However, Evans then took centre stage when he was brought into the attack to break up a promising opening partnership.

Attenborough had reached 45 without the loss of a wicket until Evans had Charlie Simkiss caught by Stokes.

He then had Pratham Ajalla stumped by Fryer cheaply before Stuart Grimley bowled opener Mark Robinson for 29 to leave Attenborough on 55-3.

They had only added a further four runs before Evans had Brendan Ryan caught by Ant Brown while Attenborough then found themselves on 63-5 when the Southwell bowler struck again to have Morgan Beer caught by William Rimmer.

Prateer Mehta led the Attenborough recovery before Evans got to work again by taking a further three wickets.

He clean bowled Will Humphriss, Sannibh Ghosh and Oliver Gladden-Porter to finish his superb spell with Attenborough on 101-8.

Fryer ran out Bhavesh Panchal for 14 before Mark Bowie bagged the crucial scalp of Mehta for 44 courtesy of a Sam Barber catch as Southwell secured their fourth win of the season.

Three defeats in the last four games have hit Farndon's championship hopes in the same division.

They were beaten by six wickets on Saturday at Burton Joyce Lions and have dropped down to fourth place after leading the league up until the midway mark of the season.

Farndon were bowled out for 129 after being put into bat on Saturday with Martin Hill and Luke Donovan their top scorers with 25 and 24 respectively.

Adam Baldwin made an early breakthrough in the Lions reply and returned 2-38 from his seven-over spell.

However, Farndon were unable to halt the Lions' charge as they had wrapped up the win inside 24 overs to move into third spot in the table after leapfrogging their defeated visitors.

Farndon 2nds were awarded the points in Division J after Radcliffe on Trent 3rds conceded their clash while Southwell 2nds recorded an excellent win over high-flying West Bridgfordians 4ths.

Jim Scott had struck an unbeaten 59 while Chris Miller made 56 as Southwell set their visitors a target of 197-3 from 40 overs.

Third-placed Bridgfordians were then bowled out for 179 in reply as Liam Waspe led the Southwell attack with 3-29.

Ollie Wagstaff bowled an economical spell of 2-8 from six overs as Southwell boosted their hopes of moving out of the bottom two.
