Brad Wells makes Newark FC return alongside ex-Mansfield Town keeper Jason White and former Forest and County striker Craig Westcarr
Former Newark FC forward Brad Wells has returned to the club for the 2020-21 season.
Well known in local football scene, Wells played a part in Newark Football Club’s 2018-19 promotion and cup-winning season.
Wells, who scored four goals in four appearances in the 2018-19 season, has a wealth of experience at step five having played for league rivals Long Eaton United, Handsworth Parramore, Spalding United, Gainsborough Trinity, Stamford AFC, AFC Mansfield, Hedensford, and Frickley Athletic.
The forward has played at steps three and four and also reached the first round of the FA Cup with Gainsborough Trinity.
Chairman Gary Clarke said: "Having scored at each level and each team he’s played for, Brad has proved himself to be formidable in front of goal and will add to the football club’s strike-force.
"Brad is well known to many in Newark as, with his brother, he runs the Turquoise Teapot, recently renamed as the Kiebra Coffee and Gin Bar, on Bowbridge Road.
"Further cementing his ties to the town and the local community."
The announcement of Wells was followed the signing of former professional striker Craig Westcarr.
Clarke said: "Many within the town will know of Craig from his spells at Nottingham Forest, Notts County, Lincoln City, Chesterfield and Mansfield Town.
"Craig’s wealth of experience within the professional game, and more recently with higher-placed clubs in The FA’s National League System, makes him a fantastic signing for Newark Football Club.
"Since making his professional debut in 2001, aged just 16, Craig has been pivotal for a number of football clubs including Nottingham Forest, Cambridge United, Kettering Town, Notts County, Chesterfield, Walsall, Portsmouth and Mansfield Town, and more recently with Matlock Town and Grantham Town.
"With over 520 appearances the pedigree of the Nottingham-born player cannot be questioned.
"His enthusiasm for the game and his confidence are clearly evident in his play and with over 115 goals in his career so far, the back of the net is certainly something Craig has hit more than a few times, and long may this continue.
"As a player who has played football with all five of our nearest professional clubs, Craig’s inclusion in the squad is something tantalising and really very special.
"It will be a real treat to welcome Craig more formally to the football club once training begins."
The latest signing for the club, which was announced earlier today, was goalkeeper Jason White.
The ex-Mansfield Town glovesman will join the squad once pre-season training begins under the current lockdown rules.
White made 53 league and cup appearances for Mansfield, including a memorable performance against then Championship side Stoke City in the 2005 League Cup.
"Mansfield Town, then in EFL League 2, won the game 3-0 on penalties, and Jason was hailed a hero during a penalty shoot-out, in which he saved the visitor’s first penalty," said Clarke.
White came through the Nottingham Forest academy, before joining Mansfield Town.
His former clubs also include Northampton, Rotherham, Cheltenham, Darlington, Scarborough Athletic, AFC
"Jason’s experience and quality will enhance Newark Football Club’s defensive line for the coming season," said Clarke.
