Newark Boxing Academy home show at Farndon sees successful day as 14 bouts took place




Several hundred people attended the first Newark Boxing Academy home show at Farndon to watch 14 bouts take place.

It was the first show that the academy has held in its ten year existence and saw some of the best upcoming talent in the area fight.

The event also included two fighters from Newark’s Lions Den Boxing Academy.

Ten-years-old Arlo Pearson, made his debut after a previous skills bout but despite putting in a good effort was unanimously defeated by Billy McCann from Leicester.

Dario Cula lost against Jacob Rothwell from Lincoln in his debut.

Cula started well before Rothwell brought it home to get a unanimous decision.

Ethan Kettleborough showed a lot of heart in his bout adjusting his tactics.

Alfie Holmes from Lions Den Boxing Academy won via a split decision against a boxer from Derbyshire.

Isabel Priestley was unlucky not to get the nod against Regan Clay from Clifton after looking comfortable for a large amount of the fight.

Ellias Bastable was the next boxer up against Caiden Thompson.

Bastable who was the second fighter Lions Den Boxing Academy suffered a defeat against a strong opponent.

Billy Cowling made his way back to the ring after a two year hiatus, and defeated Liam Huntley from Saint Ives Boxing Club.

Cowling was comfortable throughout against a quality opponent landing clean shots and winning with ease.

Kace Norkett didn’t show any nerves on debut as he won against Noah Debas in a good battle.

Norkett worked off his jab and brought it home with some tidy shots in the third round.

Rhys Alexander avenged a defeat against Preston Deacon from Braunston Golden Gloves after losing to the same opponent just three weeks ago.

Alexander had specifically requested the opponent again and made amends achieving a solid victory.
The performance showcased the growth that Alexander has achieved through working hard in the gym and learning from his experiences.

Jack Hillier got a win on the board after a challenging last couple of fights, he defeated Zack Bartlet from South Normanton School of Boxing with a third round stoppage.

Nathan Bower put in a good performance on debut against Rohan Price from Empire Amateur Boxing Club but lost to the away boxer.

Ethan Kettleborough fought against a more experienced fighter from Buxton and despite adapting to his opponent’s style suffered a defeat.

Kettleborough was tenacious in his approach and put on a good show in front of his home crowd.

Lucas Reynolds, another boxer on debut lost against Josh Harrison losing in a close bout against an aggressive fighter.

Jake Blant who has recently been selected for the England pathway, easily handled Artjoms Sergejevs after previously defeating him earlier in the year.

The last bout of the day saw Ethan Matemadombo Kayden Varney lose by split decision despite controlling the fight for significant portions.

“All of the away boxers came to fight and it was an entertaining show,” said Newark Boxing Academy principal Gary Springett.

“I’d like to thank all the volunteers and sponsors of the event, we couldn’t put on the event without their help.”
