First match win with New Inn for Steve Hill
They must be putting something in the water at Coddington. After last week’s great result for Brian Dodd with Newark WMC, this week fellow Coddington angler Steve Hill had his first match win after years of trying with the New Inn.
At Sherwood Forest Farm Park’s Holmedale Lake he drew peg 20 on the entrance to the bay and, fishing dead red maggots down the edge on a pole, he hauled out 128-9-0 of carp.
Runner-up was Steve Baker, fishing pole and paste on flyer peg 31, and in third was Mark Liwoshko on peg 18, fishing a pellet feeder and later pole down the edge for three lumps weighing 30lbs to total 96-14-0.
This week: Portland on Four Islands.
On Saturday, Currys fished at Portland on Canal where the top four all cracked the ton.
Winner on peg 29 was Paul Harsley, fishing pellet across on the pole for a level 140-0-0, and runner-up on peg 11 was Pete Willis, fishing pellet shallow over and then dead reds down the edge for 131-10-0. Third, on peg 19, was Alan Cullington fishing meat on the pole for 125-15-0 and fourth was Barry Young, on peg 23, fishing meat and pellet for 101-2-0.
Barry Young only has to make it to one of the last two matches to win the league as you get a point for turning up.
Also on Saturday, Newark WMC had their annual match on the new pool at Tunnel Barn fishery.
Graham Lowe won using an unusual combination of rod and centre pin reel and pieces of hot dog sausages as bait to catch 102-12-0 of carp. Second was guest Nigel Lale, fishing pole with meat and pellet for 94-8-0, and third was Mark Neal on the same tactics for 83-5-0.

Collingham fished the Val Shasby Memorial Match at Millennium where the winner was Howard Langley on Centenary 26, fishing meat on a method feeder down the middle and his ‘fizz bomb’ surface contraption shallow with maggot and pellet for 100-4-0.
Runner-up was Ced Baldwin on Centenary 22, fishing pole and paste for 92-8-0, and third was Matt Dring on Willow ten, fishing corn in the margins for 73-11-0.
This week: Grantham challenge at Millennium.
Railway Club fished at Portland on Four Islands. Barry Young fished pellet and corn on peg 24 to win with 139-10-0. Runner-up was Leanne Knott on peg 21. fishing meat and corn for 133-12-0, and third was Paul Cowling also fishing pellet and meat on peg seven for 104-5-0.

Newark Federation members’ match on the Trent at Rolleston was won by Jon Sanderson on peg 14, fishing a groundbait feeder with worm for 26-10-0 of bream and skimmers. Second was Ron Martin on peg 32, also fishing a feeder for two bream and a few bits for 11-4-0, and third was Arthur Rigley on peg 22 with 6-8-0.
