Mixed results in the hockey for Newark and South Nottinghamshire clubs




After weather conditions caused issues with frozen pitches, hockey teams across the district again got some game time at the weekend.

Newark men’s 1sts lost narrowly to Nottingham Trent University 3rds at home 2-0.

The South Notts men’s 1sts defeated the Derwent 2nds 2-0.

Both goals were scored by Harry Beedham.

Mark Doney in goal kept another clean sheet and made some memorable saves.

The South Notts defence were like a wall against the frequent Derwent attacks and kept their side in the game.

Belper defeated Newark men’s 2nds 3-0 at home.

South Nottingham men’s 2nd side defeated Derwent 3rds 3-2 with goals from Alex Cavan, Robbie Humphris, and Michael Shapland.

The Newark men’s 3rds lost 3-2 at home to a determined Leicester Westleigh 3rds.

South Nottingham Men’s 3rds secured a 7-3 win over Nottingham Players.

Good midfield control resulted in constant precise delivery to the forward line.

Sam McNeil, Ben Walker, and Harry Strutt scored one each and the Evergreen Captain Stuart Croston hit a devastating four goals.

Croston has played ten matches this season and so far has scored 26 goals.

The team is now top of its League Division.

The Newark veteran’s over-40s team lost 8-1 to Sheffield Bankers.

Newark Ladies’ 1sts travelled to and drew 1-1 against Matlock Baileans 2nds.

Shanade Bradley scored for Newark with a superb goal.

Sam Wade, Rachael Vickers, and Anna Kempster were awarded players of the match.

The Newark Ladies’ 2nds lost 3-2 to Nottingham Players 1sts in a tight contest.

The Newark Ladies’ 3rd side travelled to the Southwell Brincliffe where they drew 1-1 in a tight match.

Newark started the game with great determination with some amazing play from all with Newark having the majority of possession the game stood at 0-0 at half-time.

The second half started with Southwell Brincliffe getting a goal, however, Newark’s determination carried on throughout the game and resulted in Vicky Jones scoring the equaliser.

The Newark Ladies’ Development side took on a team from South Notts losing the contest 8-0.

A spokesman from South Nots said that the game was a lot closer than what the scoreline indicated.
