Newark Rugby Club youngsters given chance to explore Dusty Hare's career
Young players at Newark Rugby Club have been given an insight into one of the town’s biggest sports stars.
It comes after Dusty Hare featured in an article by The Times, which looked back over the former England international’s career.
Hare, 67, holds the world record for points scored in a first-class rugby career, with 7,337, and Newark’s Kelham Road clubhouse is now filled with some of his prestigious jerseys.
“Dusty, to a legion of fans, is remembered as the goal-kicking full-back in the England team that won the 1980 Grand Slam, led by Sir Bill Beaumont,” explained a spokesman for Newark Rugby Club.
“The Grand Slam was a landmark season in a glittering career, which this article captures from early days at The Magnus to the glory days for Leicester and England.”
Hare followed names such as Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Brendan Foster and Rebecca Adlington to feature in the series.
Dusty explained that he always handed on his international jerseys to his hometown club, and a group of members back in the 80s had them framed and put on display.

The club has also encouraged its young members to get involved in the Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire RFU youth council challenge 2020.
It has asked youth players up to the age of 24 to do the following; complete as many five metre shuttle runs as possible inside a minute, complete as many rugby ball kick-ups as possible with no bounce, big distance kick into a wheelie bin, maximum burpees in 30 seconds, and maximum claps while throwing the ball in the air.
The RFU youth council has asked players to record themselves completing their challenges and upload them to either Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #NLDRUGBYCHALLENGE and, in return, they will be awarded with an NLD stash.
