A dominant second-half performance helped Newark Town power through to the quarter-finals of the Willie Hall Cup.

In a re-match of last season’s final, Liam Warner scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 home win over Wheatsheaf United.

The first-half was a close affair, with Wheatsheaf using the wind to their advantage to create some good opportunities, including a one-on-one chance by Calum Law that was saved by Anthony Richardson.

However, in the 38th minute Newark took the lead when Thomas Perkins crossed for the unmarked Warner to head home.

Wheatsheaf could have levelled soon after the break when Law crossed for Oliver Clarke, who could only hit the post.

That spurred Newark into action and they doubled the advantage through Jordan Cummings, who planted a beautiful free-kick into the top left-hand corner.

Warner added a third almost straight away when he beat the keeper with a one-on-one after Cummings found him with a through ball.

His hat-trick was completed when he converted another one-on-one from an accurate Simon Greenfield pass.

Newark will face Grove 16 in the last-eight after they eased past Second Division Robin Hood with four first-half goals.

After Robin Hood missed a glorious one-on-one chance in the opening minutes, Grove were soon on top.

Lewis Chambers scored the first on 20 minutes when his turn and shot looped off a defender’s leg and into the corner.

Alex Hales added a second with a confident finish after good inter-play with Rhys Stanley.

The goal of the game came from Joe Hurst, who fired into the top corner from long distance.

Hales turned provider for the fourth goal, passing to Chris Dobbie who controlled the ball on his chest and fired between the keeper’s legs.

Robin Hood pulled one back just after the break when a corner was not dealt with, allowing Luke Buxton to finish.

The visitors added another with a few minutes left. Chambers scored at the second attempt after his initial shot was saved.

Coddington Mill booked a quarter-final match at home to Witham Wanderers by overcoming Second Division Grove 16 Reserves 4-3.

A shock looked to be on the cards when Grove took a first-half lead through Matthew Buck.

The equaliser came before half-time through a Lee Campbell header.

Coddington dominated the start of the second-half and Josh Johnson converted a rebounded shot to give them the lead before a second Campbell header and a solo effort from Josh King put them 4-1 ahead.

Substitute Lawrence Clarke pulled two back for Grove, but they could not force an equaliser.

The quarter-final ties, which will also includeRHP Social against Barkestone-le-Vale and Holy Trinity against Walesby, will be played on February 11.
