Home walkover in last eight send Newark into semi-finals of Notts, Lincs & Derbys Shield

Newark Rugby Club's first team resume league matches this Saturday at home to promotion contenders Melbourne.

Newark missed out on action last weekend when the scheduled Notts, Lincs & Derbys Shield quarter-final against Bourne was cancelled by the visitors.

The Lincolnshire team could not raise a team for the tie and the match was awarded to Newark by competition organisers.

Newark will now be at home to Ilkeston in the semi-final.

Newark are presently fifth in Midlands Two East North 19 points behind second-placed Melbourne who won the first match between the teams, 31-13, in December.

The colts team are also due to be playing Melbourne opposition in a curtain-raiser at Kelham Road, kick-off 1pm.

Newark and Southwell meet on Saturday week (April 2) in the second league clash of the season.

The local derby, at Kelham Road, will kick-off at 3pm.
