Amy Hunt, 18, of Newark, named Athletics Weekly’s British junior female athlete of the year
One of the town’s biggest sports stars has been named British junior female athlete of the year.
Amy Hunt, 18, of Newark, was named Athletics Weekly’s British junior female athlete of the year following a strong 2020 that saw her move up to fourth in the 100m senior rankings.
Having clocked an age group world record 200m time of 22.42 seconds in June 2019, Hunt was set to take the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Nairobi by storm, but coronavirus intervened.
Instead, she turned her attention to the British Athletics Championships in Manchester, where she raced in the 100m and won bronze.
Hunt’s achievements in 2020 did not stop there as she competed in the Diamond League in Doha and also enjoyed a British 60m title win.
She said: “Thank you so much to Athletics Weekly and everyone who voted.
“It has been a crazy year and there has been some brilliant performances.
“I feel honoured just to be alongside these two amazing ladies.”
Hunt finished ahead of British 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson and hurdler Lucy-Jane Matthews.
