Innovative Newark Tennis Club served with prestigious Notts LTA award
Newark Tennis Club has earned the prestigious title of club of the year at the Notts LTA annual awards.
Club captain Sara Jackson accepted the award with team-mates Jen Brown, Sam Smith and Job Thornton.
She said: “The club has gone from strength to strength and we have worked tirelessly to provide plenty of opportunities to play tennis to the local community.”
Last year, the club expanded its offering with the opening of a new hard court and two maintained grass courts at its London Road home ground.
The expansion saw adult membership figures rise by 32%.
“With six courts the club was able to host numerous social tournaments and competed across the county with its 17 teams,” said Jackson, who plays for the ladies’ and mixed teams.
“The courts are in use three mornings per week and two evenings per week for social, all inclusive tennis.
“The clubs move to an online membership and booking system was popular and the club excelled in its social media presence.
“We were recognised for our junior and school coaching programme and an 80% increase in junior members, health and well-being efforts for a local employers workforce, and the Wimbledon experience for care home residents.
“We were described as innovative, future-thinking and still developing.”
The club also collected their summer league medals and earned three wins from three matches in what was a successful weekend.
