There was double delight for the Sugden brothers in front of more than 3,000 spectators at the Main Event, Bolton, with Chad and Regis both securing career-boosting wins.

Backed by around 200 fans from Newark, the duo produced explosive K-1 performances in what was one of the biggest kickboxing events in the UK this year.

Twenty-year-old Chad co-headlined a long-awaited match against K Star Gym’s Nathan Epps, of Birmingham, who had talked down Chad’s chances before the bout.

Chad, who has fought on shows in Germany and Spain this year, was the first to land any meaningful blows.

He went on to kick the inside of Epps’ leg which felled the Birmingham fighter, before hitting him from all angles in a dominant first round.

The second round followed a similar pattern and Chad upped the ante even more in the third. Epps tried to force the fight with his come-forward style but kept being punished.

Chad said: “I was pleased to be able to come back to The Main Event and the UK to co-headline the best show in the country by far.

“I was confident I had the skills, fitness and game plan to deal with anything Nathan threw at me, and I wanted to show everyone that I could push the pace and use my skills to give him all the problems under the sun.

“I’ve come through this fight with no marks or injuries and now feel ready to get back to the world and international scene.

“There’s only one more UK fight for me at 70-72kg, against Glory fighter Jordan Watson. In the meantime I’m looking at moving up in weight.”

He is set to be selected by K-1 Global for an upcoming event in Ireland.

Chad’s brother Regis, 18, wowed fans earlier on the show by defeating Danny Horton, of Majestic Gym, Liverpool, winning on all three judges’ scorecards.

Unbeaten in his eight professional fights, Regis was confident and took control from the off, dominating the first round with great boxing skills and his trademark spinning kicks.

The second was closer but still a dominant one for the Newark fighter, who landed several hurtful techniques.

Horton tried to respond in round three, but Regis was relentless and was crowned the winner at the bell.

Regis said: “I was excited to be on this show. I followed my coach’s game plan and everything worked to perfection.”

“My next fight is an Enfusion Live world title eliminator against Ilias Bulaid, of Morocco, at Eversley Leisure Centre, Basildon, on June 29 so this was a great warm up against a strong and dangerous fighter.”

The brothers’ coach and father, Dean Sugden, of Suggy’s Gym, Newark, said: “Although he has been fighting on the world stage for over a year now, Chad prepared for this one like a challenger, even going to Holland last month to spar with Glory’s best fighters at Hemmers Gym in Breda.

“Chad speaks with actions not words.

“It was a mature performance by Regis and one which reaffirms his position among the top professional K-1 fighters in the UK.”
