Knockout performance from Chad Sugden
Suggy’s Gym light heavyweight Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden has added a quickfire second knockout victory to his pro boxing record.
Newark-based Sugden defeated Norbert Szekeres, of the Czech Republic, two minutes into the first round on the card of On The Edge at Walsall Town FC’s Bescot Stadium.
The fight looked to have been a tough test for 23-year-old Sugden as his Czech opponent had 18 professional wins, including nine knockouts.
But a stunning left hook ended the bout.
Sugden thanked the 150 members of the ‘2 Slick army’ who cheered him on.
“I said I wanted a loud crowd tonight so thank you Newark and Nottingham (his home city) for coming to support me as always.
“I’m back out in November and looking forward to seeing — and hearing — you all again.”
After moving up to a heavier division, the fighter said he thought his future was at light heavyweight, alongside the likes of Anthony Yarde, Frank Buglioni, Callum Johnson, Jose Burton and Bob Ajisafe.
'The biggest and best performance of the night'
Sugden started the fight by landing good punches to Szekeres’ head and body.
Most of the Czech boxer’s punches were avoided by Sugden, who stood close to his opponent and picked his shots.
When he was caught by a right hook, Sugden responded with a series of uppercuts and went on to exchange hooks.
Sugden then re-adjusted his footwork and set up the crucial left hook, which sent his normally durable opponent to the canvas for a count of ten.
His manager and head coach, Dean Sugden, said: “Given that there were two boxers from Ricky Hatton’s stable on the card in Walsall, Chad stood out for all the right reasons.
“He had the biggest and loudest support by far, who raised the roof when he knocked his opponent down with that left hook.
“Without doubt his was the biggest and best performance of the night — not many foreign boxers come over to the UK and get demolished in that fashion.”
Chad Sugden will be boxing next at the Rockingham Forest Hotel, Corby, on Friday, November 3. His opponent has yet to be named.
Tickets for the fight, priced £60 VIP and £40 standard, are on sale via the ticket hotline 07816 840920 / 01636 605708.
