Ladies dominant in double win

Two wins in two days helped Newark cement their position in the top-half of the Midlands Womens Hockey League Feeder East.

They dominated their away match at West Bridgford with a strong attacking performance.

Newark created numerous chances and should have been well clear by the time Millie Hall broke the deadlock.

They further extended the advantage through Laura Donaldson and Becky Warner.

West Bridgford pulled two back before the end in between a Katie Sandell strike.

The following day they picked up their eighth victory of the season with a 1-0 success at home to Nuneaton.

Newark missed countless opportunities, including a Donaldson strike wide from two metres, while another goalbound shot hit a Newark player to send the ball wide.

Nuneaton’s keeper made numerous saves, but the match was decided by Dani Ashwell’s strike to keep them in fifth place.

Newark Ladies 2nds secured their place in the Notts Women’s Premier League with an excellent 4-1 win at league leaders Beeston Ladies 3rds.

They started strongly and took the lead before half-time through Mel Woods after a good passing move into the D.

Beeston attempted to hit back, but were thwarted by keeper Lily Dean, who made some excellent saves.

Newark stayed strong, and took control with three more strikes through Ella Wolfenden (2) and Trish Trafford.

Beeston pulled one back just before the end as they laid siege to Newark’s goal.

A dogged performance by Newark was not enough as they fell to a 5-2 home loss.

They led 2-1 thanks to two goals from 14-year-old Kian Hunter and looked set to secure a second East Midlands Premier League win of the season.

An earlier start time caused problems for Newark, with two players turning up for the match late meaning they began with ten players.

After going 1-0 down, Newark battled hard and moved into a 2-1 lead.

However, as the match went on, mistakes going forward proved costly as Leicester were able to break quickly and put the defence under pressure to score four times without reply.

Newark remain at the foot of the table and facing likely relegation.

Newark Mens 2nds fell to a 15th successive defeat in the second team East Midlands Premier League with a 10-1 loss at Coalville.
