Ladies finish season with another win

Newark Hockey Club ladies’ 1st XI wrapped up their first season in the Midlands leagues in style on Saturday.

With only the top team in Midlands League Feeder East promoted, and Newark already guaranteed second spot, most people expected a rather flat game at West Bridgford Monarchs, but that is not how it panned out.

The rivalry between the two clubs was evident from the start as the tackles became rather over-exuberant at times.

Newark struck first when Sarah Pask and Jemma Gough linked well in front of goal, and a thunderous drive from Gough from short range gave the goalkeeper no chance.

The visitors created a flurry of chances and broke through again on 28 minutes to double their lead when Newark’s goal machine Emma Wilson opened her account for the day.
