Ladies get first win of season

Newark Hockey Club ladies’ 1st team got back to winning ways in impressive style on Saturday with a 5-0 demolition of Northamptonshire side Kettering.

However the scoreline could have been so different, with Kettering having the best of the early exchanges as Newark were unable to string any passes together.

The home side were awarded their first penalty corner against the run of play on 11 minutes, but were unable to convert the opportunity.

Kettering were finding it easy to penetrate the final quarter, but Holly Powell’s magnificent defence of Jemma Gough, Nic Jenner, Kate Lambert and Abigail Gordon held firm.

On 30 minutes Newark broke the deadlock with a move straight from the training ground as Jemma Gough hit a superb reverse stick cross to the well- placed player of the match Becky Taylor, who made no mistake as she fired home.
