Late consolation for Newark FC in defeat to Long Eaton United
Two goals in both halves proved to be enough for the UCL Premier Division North leaders Long Eaton United as they brushed aside Newark 4-1 at Greenwich Avenue on Saturday.
Alex Marshall scored an early opener that Mitchell Robinson added to midway through the first half.
After the break, Long Eaton’s substitutes Reco Fyfe and Ben Hutchinson — the former Newark forward — found the back of the net.
The Highwaymen did muster a response with minutes to play, however, as former Long Eaton forward Joshua Lawe scored in injury time.
His goal was met by chants of ‘we’re going to win 5-4’ from the Newark faithful as 131 supporters turned out.
Newark have just three league games left this term, with their final away fixture on Saturday at third-placed Anstey Nomads (3pm kick-off).
