Leon Leong was in Hong Kong as Notfast Running Club travelled land and sea to compete in competitions




Leon Leong, of Notfast Running Club, represented Newark in Hong Kong as he completed the three-mile southern district Beach Run in 32-01.

Meanwhile, in Newark, 28 members were in action, racing in three parkruns.

Netty Stevens ran a new personal best.

Dave Fargher made a marathon effort out of the 3.28-mile Christmas challenge run, an event held over two days.

He completed eight laps (26.24 miles) of Newark Showground in 04-16-56.

Kira Green (01-24-40) and Kerry Robinson (01-11-14) completed two laps, while Kimberley Etherington-Bates (00-26-57) Peter Middleton (31-50) and Claire Simmonds (44-00) finished one lap.

Sunday saw Middleton go for 16.4 miles as he finished in 03-23-19.

Chris and Sophie Redhead - the latter tackling her first half-marathon distance - ran 13.1 miles in 02-51-55.

Green completed three laps in 02-22-47 (9.84 miles) while Jill Fowkes (01-15-19) Madaleine Combie (01-17-21) and Cliff Robinson (01-19-48) all ran two laps.

Etherington-Bates (00-26-55) and Simmonds (00-39-46) ran one lap on Sunday.

Picker top three for third time

Ryley Picker finished third for a third consecutive round in the Notts Mini League Cross Country.

Picker was one of 12 runners from Newark Athletic Club who took part in round four, held in Worksop.

Part of the boys’ running team, the under-11 racer was first back for the club and was followed in by debut runner Jude White in 36th and Cameron Shivas in 38th.

The first race of the day saw Harriet Monaghan represent the club in the under-11 girls category, and she finished in 26th place.

The under-13 girls’ race saw Niamh Monaghan marginally miss out on a top-ten spot as she finished 11th.

Beth Wynn-Jones was next in the for club in 14th, while Anna Clarke and Zoe Smith crossed the line in 21st and 22nd respectively.

In the under-13s boys’ race, Joseph Monk finished in second place and Josh Clee came in at 12th.

Two top-ten finishes in the girls’ under-15s race gave the club inspiration ahead of their next outing in February at Rushcliffe Country Park.

Ellie Monaghan earned seventh place overall and Catherine Booth secured tenth place, finishing moments later.

Christmas challenge

Newark Striders’ Emma Ashwin and Rob Wilkinson braved the freezing wind at Newark Showground for Adam Holland’s Mara Mile Christmas Challenge.

Ashwin completed the 3.28-mile track once in 41-29, while Wilkinson opted for two laps and finished in 1-10-07.

Nick Harrison and Simon Roberts also completed Christmas-themed runs as they took on the five-mile Lincoln and District charity Christmas cross country race.

Roberts was first back in 41-17 and Harrison followed in at 1-08-04.

Henrietta McCabe also took part in the Lincoln run.
