Newark look forward to winter season as last matched played in Summer tennis campaign

IT HAS been an exciting but tough summer of tennis for Newark as they played their last games of the season.

After a few back-to-back years of success and promotion, the teams have been challenged in their respective leagues.

Some of the teams in the club had a few league point deductions which will see a few mid-table finishes and a couple of demotions.

The club and its dozens of match players have played 65 matches over the summer and now look forward to the winter season.

The ladies travelled to Lady Bay in the last match of Summer where, unfortunately, results did not go their way.

Sara Jackson and Steph Smith took 14 games (1-15, 4-12, 9-7).

The pairing of Jen Brown and Tamsin Ellis took 11 games (0-16, 4-12, 7-9).

Dawn Cartledge and Annie Walton won 8 games in their defeat (0-16,2-14,6-10).

The team will drop down from Division One after finishing in the last position of the competition this season.

There were mixed results in the men's tennis for the club as the men's 1sts division five team defeated Grantham at home 60-48 games.

Steve Cartledge and James Lalyk won 5-7, 7-5, 8-4 (20-16).

Rich Hall and Gary Brickles achieved a nice win, 5-7, 9-3, 8-4 (22-14). Edgars Barvinskis and John Sampson tied 5-7, 5-7, 8-4 (18-18).

It was a more challenging set of matches for the men's 2nd team as Newark went down 96-12 against Nottinghamshire University.
