Josh Mee scores maiden century for Coddington & Winthorpe in South Nottinghamshire League Division H match against Ravenshead
By Joshua Mee
Rain and poor light forced Coddington & Winthorpe’s match against Ravenshead in Division H of the South Nottinghamshire League on Saturday to be abandoned after opener Josh Mee scored his maiden century.
With rain looking to ruin the day from the start, a reduced 32-over game was agreed, and Coddington & Winthorpe elected to bat.
This seemed to be an inspired decision, with the home side scoring 221-4. Opener Mee and wicketkeeper Jay Butterfield put on a 92-run stand after Ravenshead had reduced Coddington & Winthorpe to 37-3.
Butterfield scored 58, including a six to bring up his half-century. He was then caught out in the deep, but Mee and Matt Leggett picked up where he left off, hitting an unbeaten 92-run partnership off 58 balls.
Leggett, who scored 25 not out, allowed Mee to take the majority of the strike, allowing him to bring up his maiden century. He did this in the final over of the innings with a six into the leg side, finally ending 107 not out off 95 balls.
Ravenshead began their chase exceptionally well, reaching 83-2 by the time the game was stopped. Opener Luke Stephenson scored an unbeaten and chanceless run-a-ball 50, causing the fielding side a lot of worry that their big score may be caught.
Both teams were reluctant to call the game off, but the conditions were dismal and so the game was brought to an anticlimactic end.
Coddington & Winthorpe go to Claypole for their final Saturday game of the season.
Meanwhile, Collingham & District were crowned Nottinghamshire Premier League Division 2 champions on Saturday, despite not taking to the field.
Their trip to Notts Unity Casuals 1sts was washed out due to the wet weather, with both teams taking two points each.
That was enough as second-placed Clipstone, who trailed them by eight points, had their match abandoned. There was some play against Clifton Village but Clipstone got no further than reaching 87-9 in 25 overs.
