Hockey masters game between Newark and West Bridgford goes to shoot-out




An action-packed period of hockey saw mixed results for teams in the district with the Ladies’ masters game between Newark over 35s and West Bridgford going to a shoot-out.

The Newark side went up 1-0 in the second minute of the game with West Bridgford equalising before half-time.

The break saw the sides leave the pitch with one goal apiece.

Kerry Thomas, the Newark goalie, kept her team in it during the second-half with some fine saves before the game went to a shootout.

The West Bridgford side won the day as their keeper made a fine save to win the league encounter.

Newark men’s 1sts lost 7-1 against Derwent, while the 2nds fared better defeating Coalville and Loughborough Carillon 3s, 5-0.

The man of the match for Newark 2nds was Ivan Dundich who scored an impressive four goals.

Newark 2nds were dominant from start to finish but after going into the break up 1-0, they turned on the goal show in the second-half as they snared four more.

The Newark under-14 boy’s team travelled to Ashby for the final game of their Midlands Tier Two league campaign.

Going into the game undefeated, the boys continued their win streak with a 0-5 win over a talented Ashby side.

The side finished the league in second place, but it came down to goal difference.

South Notts 1sts lost 4-5 in a tightly-contested match. against Loughborough Town.

South Notts gave every effort, but just missed equalising in the closing minutes.

Scorers for South Notts were Tom Crosland, Sam Clough, and Dan Truman (2).

South Notts 2nds drew 1-1 with West Bridgford, while the 3rds missed out on a game as Derby was unable to field a team.

A 0-0 draw was the result for South Notts 4ths as they took on West Bridgford Development in a very close game.

South Notts Ladies 1sts defeated West Bridgford convincingly 9-0.

It was a feat made more impressive by the fact that South Notts were missing their regular keeper.

Freya Beaumont stepped forward and padded up against a powerful West Bridgford team.

South Notts converted all opportunities, and their excellent teamwork ensured victory.

Scorers for South Notts were Becky Humfris (5) Ruby Ryan (2) with Louise Price and Caroline Brackenbury netting one each. The win sees the team keep its place at the top of its League Division table.

Newark Ladies’ 3rds drew 1-1 with Redhill Ladies’ 2nds.

In the first half Newark and Redhill both had their chances but neither were able to execute their opportunities. The teams went into the break tied at 0-0.

Both teams scored in the second with Newark player of the match Caroline Arkley finding the net for her team.
