Mixed fortunes at mid-season stage

The Newark Hockey Club men’s and ladies’ first teams have plenty of work to do when their seasons resume after the Christmas break.

But, while the ladies’ 1sts will be looking to continue their impressive form since promotion to the Midlands leagues, it’s a different story for the men who face a tough relegation battle if they are to maintain their place in East Midlands One.

Hopes were high after two wins in their three pre-season friendly matches, and they walloped visitors Ludlow 6-0 in their opening game in the England Hockey Vase, but they are bottom of the table after losing all seven of their matches in the first half of the season.
