Mixed fortunes for clubs
On a mild but very blustery Sunday there were some good weights recorded, with some venues affected more than others.
Railway Club fished at Mill Dam on the match lake, which is relatively sheltered, and the weights reflected that.
Ian Young on peg 15 fished short pole and pellet in front and down the edge for an all-carp catch weighing 160-5-0 and an easy win.
Runner-up was Pete Knott on peg four, fishing corn and pellet for 105-8-0, and third was guest Colin Spencer on peg 24 fishing pole and paste for 94-1-0. Ron Sutton fished pole and corn on peg 16 to finish fourth with 88-4-0.
This week: Lakeside at Ranskill.
Conditions were also bad at Metheringham Fen Lake for the visit of Southwell AC but there are so many fish there it didn’t make much difference with the top six all cracking the ton barrier.
Winner on peg 17 was Liam Cooper, fishing pole and maggot to win with 166-6-0 followed in second by Ricky Wagstaff on peg 11 fishing dead reds for 126-4-0.
Ron Martin was third, also fishing dead reds on peg seven for 125-3-0, Fred Cooper fourth on peg 14 with 121-2-0 and Phil Wagstaff fifth on peg 15 with 116-12-0.Harry Ford was sixth with 108-9-0 from peg four.
This week: Lodge Farm Old Lake.
Collingham’s Millennium Fishery was on top form for the 30-pegger with 60lb weights not even winning sections.
Winner was Ian Sparrow on Centenary 21, fishing pole with worm and caster to catch F1 carp and plenty of the newly- stocked mirror and common carp for 108-15-8.
Runner-up was Matt Dring, fishing corn in the margins on Willow nine to catch some big mirrors weighing 90-3-0, and third was Howard Langley on Willow 16, fishing feeder and fizzbomb shallow for 87-7-0.
Danny Breslin was fourth on Centenary 30, fishing feeder and pellet for 80-9-8 and fifth was Keith Hage fishing pole and pellet shallow on centenary 25 with 76-6-0. Brian Clark was sixth with 71-8-0.
New Inn fished at Portland on Four Islands where conditions were horrendous.
Plenty gave in before the end — a broken pole and a complete tackle box blown in with loads of gear lost gives an idea.
Bait presentation was near impossible for most but Simon Curtis managed better than any on peg three. He started fishing bread shallow to the island before it got too windy, then switched to meat close in to win with 76-12-0.
In second was Pete Willis on peg 23, fishing dead reds down the edge for 65-10-0, and third was Mark Clark on peg 30, also fishing dead reds in the margins for 42-3-0.
Alan Atkinson was fourth from peg 21 with most of his 41-0-0 coming in the last hour.
This week: Girton Mill Dam Old Lake.
Newark WMC fished their last match of the year at Leon’s Pond where the winner was Mark Neal on peg two.
He fished bread punch on the pole for a level 56-0-0, a catch that included a cracking ghost carp weighing 11-11-0.
Second was Paul Thompson, fishing pole and meat on peg five with 36-10-0 and third was Jamie Booth on peg 14, also fishing with meat for 27-12-0. Lee Milner was fourth with 26-9-0 fishing with dead reds on peg 15.
