Mixed results for Newark Tennis Club in good weather
A beautiful day at the Newark Tennis Club treated spectators to some excellent match play in a mixed campaign for the home squads.
In the mixed 1st, division 5, Newark defeated Ravenshead 74-34 in an easy victory.
Sam Smith and Sara Jackson lost just three games with scores of 12-0, 10-2, and 11-1 while Steve and Dawn Cartledge won 22-14 with 7-5, 5-7, 10-2.
Rounding out the results were James Lalyk and Jen Brown who won 19-17 as the team now sits in second place in their division after two matches.
In the mixed second division, the Caunton 2nd side went down 56-52 to Newark 2nds.
The captain Gary Brickles suffered an injury in the final round resulting in a 2-10 loss for his pairing but the team had already secured enough games to take the win from local rivals.
Gary Brickles and Clare Hogg scored 3-9, 6-6, 2-10.
Todor Malinov/Katy Dines 7-5, 9-3, 8-4 and Edgars Barvinskis/Dawn Cartledge 3-9, 9-3, 9-3.
In the men's ninth division, Newark 2nds went up against Ilkeston Rutland losing 76-32.
Ilkeston Rutland sent a strong team to Newark, taking the home team by surprise and giving away just 32 games.
Edgars Barvinskis/John Sampson scored 3-9, 1-11, 5-7 with Adam Bramley/Greg Eden 4-8, 4-8, 3-9.
Andy Cole/Tony Gammage finished up 3-9, 6-6, 3-9.
The ladies' 2nds were unlucky to not take more games from Grantham but lost the match 60-48.
The scores were Clare Hogg/Katy Dines 9-3,4-8,8-4 and Helen Isaacs/Tamara Bainbridge 7-5, 4-8, 4-8.
Julie Pipes/Jackie Butler finished up on 4-8, 1-11, 7-5.
