Mixed results at the net for tennis

The ladies’ team from Newark Tennis Club suffered a narrow 7-5 defeat after travelling for an early match at The Park.

Chris Reek/Helen Isaacs 1-3, Jill Pinder/Jo Ellis 2-2, Lynne Hare/Rachel Cooke 2-2.

The mixed team continued their first season in Division Three with a 85-59 loss at Grantham.

Sara Jackson and Steve Cartledge started strong and won 11-5,9-7,12-4 (32-16) but the team was fielding some new pairings of Hrudya Kolli/Ewan Kennett 2-14, 6-10, 4-12 (12-36) and Gary Brickles/Dawn Cartledge 5-11,2-14,8-8 (15-33).

For the first time this year, the ladies’ 1sts beat Notts Castle in Division One of the Notts Summer League. Sara Jackson/Steph Smith won their sets 12-4, 9-7, 12-4 (33-15). Jen Brown/Tamsin Ellis 9-7, 6-10, 11-5 (26-22). Dawn Cartledge/Annie Walton 2-14, 7-9, 10-6 (19-29).

The Men’s 1sts (short format) came away from Ravenshead in Division Three with a 9-3 win. with sets from Steve Cartledge/Jon Thornton 6-3,2-6,6-1,6-2 (4-0). Rich Hall/Todor Malinov 6-3,6-0,6-3,6-0 (4-0). Gary Brickles/Ewan Kennett 1-6,6-3,1-6,0-6 (1-3).

The mens 1st (short format) were away again this weekend and brought home another win. They took 7 sets from Sutton Bonnington. Steve Cartledge/ Ewan Kennett took 4 of those 6-4, 6-4 6-3, 6-3. Sam Smith/James Lalyk took 3 (6-3 2-6, 6-4, 6-1). Adrian Smith/John Sampson 1-6, 4-6, 0-6 5-7.
