Notfast, Newark Striders and Newark Athletic Club host multi-club run ahead of Newark Half Marathon

Three clubs and 60 runners came together to build team spirit ahead of the Newark Half Marathon.

Notfast, Newark Striders and Newark Athletic Club members took on a multi-club run to discuss half marathon plans, work on their fitness and build community spirit.

Peter Davis, organiser of the event, said he was pleased with the turn-out.

“It was all about seeing each other, building spirits and getting out there,” he said.

“We had a variation of routes across five, seven, nine and 13 miles so there was no serious competitive nature to it.

“Some used it to build on their half marathon times and for others it was about just getting out there again.”

Davis said the build-up to this year’s 13.1-mile race in Newark — which returns after a two-year break due to the pandemic — had been promising.

“We have had 250 entrants so far, much more than we expected for this time of year,” he said.

“With the run being in summer there’s holidays to take into account and things like that so we see a late surge in bookings closer to the time.”

This year’s race takes place on Sunday, August 14.
