Newark Netball Club in Nottinghamshire proves to be a big hit in its opening months

A new netball club is experiencing a meteoric rise, transforming the local netball scene with its inclusive and development-focused approach.

Newark Netball Club which was founded for junior players last September by local primary school teachers Sarah Gore and Jemma Young.

Driven by a shared passion for netball, the founders said they identified a crucial lack of local netball opportunities after both of them experienced this first-hand.

Young had to travel out of town for competitive play and Gore faced the same challenge with her daughter, Evie.

Evie who has an impressive record having played for Nottingham City, Notts County and spending three years at the Loughborough Lightning Academy has now added her expertise to the club’s coaching team.

“We saw a real need for a club that welcomed everyone, regardless of skill level,” said Sarah.

“We want to create a supportive environment where players can develop their talents, have fun, and enjoy the competitive spirit of the game.”

The club offers level two, qualified weekly sessions.

From enthusiastic beginners to more experienced players, Gore said everyone can find a place at the club to hone their skills and participate in competitive matches.

The club’s rapid growth has been bolstered by its home at Barnby Road Academy, providing access to the necessary sporting facilities.

This has allowed them to accommodate their expanding membership and cater to the ever-increasing demand for the sport in Newark.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the club flourish,” says Jemma.

“We’re excited to see where this journey takes us and, most importantly, continue providing opportunities for everyone in Newark to experience the joy of netball.”

The club looked to nurture young talent as they hosted their first-ever Easter holiday day camp.

Organisers said the camp was a resounding success, the camp welcomed 30 local primary school pupils for a day of netball-fuelled fun.

Packed with drills, skill-development sessions, and culminating in a competitive tournament, the camp provided a fantastic opportunity for young players to develop their love of the sport.

Due to the positive response, Newark Netball Club is now finalising dates for their summer holiday camps, which will open the doors to both club members and newcomers from primary and secondary schools.
