Newark Alliance Second Division: Six goals shared as high-flyers are held

Mid-table Sutton-on-Trent came from behind three times to gain a point in an exciting 3-3 draw at second-placed Newark Cavaliers.

Cavaliers took the lead when Richard Lamb scored with their first shot.

Will Stokes put Sutton-on-Trent level from a shot into the top corner, but Damian Mayall restored the home side’s advantage.

The visitors hit back for a second time as Gary Panting converted a penalty after a push in the area.

The impressive Ashley Mersh gave Cavaliers the lead again, but with 15 minutes remaining Gyles Teasdale earned Sutton-on-Trent a point with a left-footed volley.

A good win was gained by Laxton Athletic as they overcame Collingham Reserves 2-1 to go third.

Collingham, fourth from bottom, took the lead after ten minutes when Jack Town kept his composure to round the keeper and score.

Laxton improved after the break and levelled through Will Hamilton, who tapped in from close-range.

After missing many chances to extend the lead, Laxton earned the three points when Joe Gibson found the roof of the net from a few yards out.

Fernwood overcame a tough test to win 3-2 against bottom-of-the-table Holy Trinity Reserves.

Luke Greaves’s neat finish into the corner put Fernwood ahead before Daniel Vickers levelled.

Isaac Duers restored Fernwood’s advantage with a tap-in and Ben Arnold made it 3-1 with a long-range free-kick.

Adam Clarke scored a second for Trinity, but they were unable to earn what would have been only their second point of the season.

The result took Fernwood up to fifth, while Trinity are ten points behind second-from-bottom Knowhow Reserves.
