Newark boxers from Carl Greaves gym remain undefeated after boxing event in Worksop where Light Heavyweight Olly Marple beat journeyman Elvis Dube while his team mate Tom Cowling who fights at middleweight won against highly fancied amateur fighter Jake Bell
It was a productive night in Worksop on Saturday for Newark boxing as both Carl Greaves' fighters had their hands raised.
Light heavyweight Olly Marple won all his rounds as he took on Elvis Dubie from Derby.
Dube, an experienced journeyman with well over 100 fights was called in to replace Lewis van Poetsch who had to withdraw due to a medical query.
"Olly boxed very well," said his trainer, Carl Greaves, "he had good movement and variation. He boxed within himself."
Marple needed three stitches after clashing heads in the third round.
The win moves Marple up to a record of four wins and zero losses.
Fellow Newark fighter, middleweight Tom Cowling also achieved a win on the night against a highly rated amateur boxer making his professional debut, Jake Bell.
"We didn't know what to expect from Jake Bell, we knew he was a very good amateur but we couldn't find footage of him fighting anywhere," said Greaves.
More than 90 people travelled from Newark to support the boxers.
Cowling stopped the southpaw boxer from Nottingham in the second round.
"Tom hit his opponent with a peach of a left hook, knocking him down and the resulting count got up to seven.
"The fight continued before Cowling hit him with a flurry of punches once again putting him down.
"Jake Bell got back up but staggered and the referee stopped the fight."
It is the eighth victory for Cowling and sees his record increase to eight and zero.
Both fighters maintain a perfect record and Greaves said he expects to see them both in action sometime in September.
