Newark Shotokan Karate Club among the medals at EKA Open Karate Championships
Newark Shotokan Karate Club earned eight medals in the third edition of EKA Open Karate Championships.
Newark, who entered 13 students into this year’s Warrington-based championships, enjoyed a successful show as over half of their gym left with medals.
Janet Farrell (over 50s individual Kumite), Josh Hyde (individual Kumite 18-20) and the trio of Josh Hyde, Shaun Cassidy and Shady (men’s Team Kumite) all earned silver medals at the championships.
Shaun Cassidy (individual Kumite 21-35), Lewis Edwards (4th Kyu and below Kumite) and Joseph Payne (also 4th Kyu and below Kumite) all earned bronze medals in their respective categories.
Chris Walsh said it was a great success for the club.
Farrell, 71, competed despite having around 20 years on her other age group competitors.
