Newark Tennis Club get mixed results with wins over Woolaton and Woodthorpe before a decisive defeat
There were mixed results in the tennis for Newark as they scrapped a 55-53 victory over Wollaton at home thanks to the ladies 2nds team in Division 7.
The home side took Wollaton ladies 2nds down to the wire as Helen Issacs and Maria Mammes won 25-11. Clare Hogg and Jill Pindar narrowly lost a 17-19 clash, while Jackie Butler and Vicky Dring were defeated 13-23 in a tough battle.
Newark’s mixed 1sts won 64-44 on the road against Woodthorpe on the road.
The result saw the team secure promotion with one game in hand.
John Bramley and Jen Brown won 24-12, James Lalyk and Steph Smith secured a 21-15 result, while Sam Smith and Dawn Cartledge got across the line up 19-17.
The Newark Men’s 2nds in division nine were well defeated in a 81-27 scoreline against hosts Wollaton mens’ seconds but will will be hoping they have done enough to stay in the competition.
The results saw Adrian Smith and Greg Eden go down 12-24, Edgars Barvinskis and John Sampson lose 10-26, and the pair of Steve Peters and Jason Page finish 5-31.
