Newark lose at Paviors but gain first bonus point
Newark Rugby Club are hoping that leading forward Jon Webster will be fit for Saturday’s home game against Kettering at Kelham Road (2.15pm).
Webster had to go off in the second half of Saturday’s defeat at Paviors because of a head injury, but 1st XV coach Bob Nashed expects him to be fit for the first home fixture of 2011.
Newark also hope to strengthen the pack through the return of prop Mick Barker after Paviors dominated proceedings up front.
Paviors won by three tries to one but Newark did manage too gain a losing bonus point for the first time this season.
Every point will be crucial over the next three months, and Nashed was delighted how his team accepted the late chance of a penalty, which David Fagan kicked, to cut Paviors’ lead to within the required margin of seven for a losing bonus point.
