Newark concede eight as Loughborough Students teach the Highwaymen a footballing lesson
Newark FC will be glad to see the back of Loughborough Students after suffering their biggest defeat of the season on Saturday.
Newark, who lost 7-0 in the away fixture earlier this season, suffered an 8-0 turnaround this time out, to a university side who have established themselves as a bogey team for the Highwaymen following their move to the UCL Premier Division North.
Having gone behind after four minutes to Olusanya Fadahunsi’s opener, Newark did well to regain composure and keep their discipline.
Despite Loughborough having much of the ball, they failed to threaten and Newark could have pulled level after 38 minutes when Nyle Blake cut in from the right and unleashed a powerful shot that hit the side netting.
What was to follow after the break could not have been expected.
Newark conceded seven goals, with six coming in the final 25 minutes.
On Saturday, the Paul Rawden’s men will look to bounce back at Sleaford Town (3pm kick-off).
The Highwaymen return to Greenwich Avenue on April 2 when they host Long Eaton United, again in the league (3pm kick-off).
