Nottingham Forest development side match with Ollerton Town abandoned because of waterlogged pitch

Appalling weather did not deter a good-sized crowd from turning up to watch Ollerton Town take on a Nottingham Forest development side.

Club officials estimated that 100 people braved the elements to watch former Ollerton manager Don Gethfield bring his young squad to Walesby Lane for a friendly match.

However, they only saw around 30 minutes of play before the match was declared a wash-out and called off.

Ollerton Town is a community-owned club that has recently secured a lease at their ground for another 25 years.

They are encouraging residents to sign up and become a part of the club where they can help with decision-making and guiding the organisation forward.

It includes development plans for the Walesby Lane ground.

Tuesday's match against the Nottingham Forest development side aimed to promote the initiative.

Nottingham Forest was up 1-0 when the game was terminated and although the home side was disappointed that the game was stopped, there was a silver lining for the event.

"Despite it being such a washout, we've now got over 20 paid members that we didn't have before," said a club spokesman.

"That's over 20 people with a vote to shape the future of the club and our Walesby Lane home," said a club spokesman.

Ollerton Town will next take on Parkgate at home (kick-off 3pm) on Saturday.
