Over 500 people join Southwell Rugby Club's centenary sport celebrations
More than 500 people helped a club celebrate its centenary with a free family fun day.
Hundreds of people went along to Saturday afternoon’s event at Southwell Rugby Club’s Park Lane ground.
It was one of a number of ways the club is planning to mark its 100-year milestone this year.
“The idea behind the event was both to celebrate our juniors’ achievements from last season and also open up the club and grounds to the community to mark the start of our century year of celebrations,” said club chairman Andrew Smith.
“Our juniors were all presented with medals and playing achievement trophies,” said Smith.
The fun day included a 100ft inflatable assault course, which was enjoyed by juniors and seniors.
There was also live music from local bands and food was served all day as festivities continued into the evening.
A book has been produced charting the history of Southwell Rugby Club, which had its beginnings at Minster School.
Free copies of the book will be given to club members.
