Newark Hockey Club ladies’ 1st XI Newark travelled to Leicester Grammar School on Saturday to take on Leicester Ladies’ 3rds, knowing they quickly had to get back to winning ways after their defeat at Northampton in the Midlands League Feeder East.

Newark started brightly and quickly created numerous chances, and got the breakthrough they needed after seven minutes when Trish Trafford lifted the ball over the prone goalkeeper.

Although Newark pressed, they could not find a way past the superb home team keeper, and it looked like it was going to take a piece of brilliance to net another.

That moment came on 34 minutes when player of the match Sarah Pask burst through, exchanged passes with Emma Wilson which mesmerised the Leicester defence, and then struck an impressive shot high into the goal to give the visitors a two-goal cushion at the break.
