Newark Swimming Club gave a battling performance in the first gala of the autumn season at Mansfield.

They finished in a plucky fourth place, chalking up eight first touches, with the mixed nine-years relay team of Jacob Carrington, Sophie Trickett, Joe McCallion and Dannielle Parry claiming two of them in the freestyle relay and the backstroke/breaststroke/breaststroke/freestyle relay.

Lewis Illsley also recorded two wins, getting the first touch in the 11-and-under boys’ 50m backstroke and the 50m freestyle.

There were also four personal best times, with Emma Lucas recording two of them to show her improvement in the 11-and-under girls’ 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.
