Newark Hockey Club ladies 1st XI were involved in a ten-goal roller coaster at league leaders Barton, but had to settle for a point after being 5-2 up at one stage.

The visitors took command of the Midlands League Feeder East game from the start as Emma Wilson fired them ahead inside the first minute.

They doubled their advantage through Jaz Bixley four minutes later and, although Barton pulled a goal back before the interval, further goals from Jemma Gough and Trish Trafford put Newark in command early in the second half.

Both sides then exchanged goals, with Wilson getting Newark’s fifth, but Barton clawed their way back to earn a remarkable 5-5 draw.

Newark men’s 1st XI went down 4-2 at Leicester Westleigh in Midlands East One, with Nick Crouch and Adam Reynolds getting the consolation efforts.
