Points win for Nina Bradley
Boxer Nina Bradley had a title fight on her mind after she claimed a comfortable points victory against Bosnian Katarina Vistica on Friday.
The 30-year-old, of Newark, won her bout at Leicester’s King Power Stadium and produced one of her best performances to date.
She dominated the fight, and almost won by a knockout after flooring Vistica in the fifth round.
Bradley kept attacking in the sixth and final round, but her opponent managed to survive until the bell.
She said she was satisfied with her performance, and believes she did more than enough against a tough opponent.
“I improved in a few different aspects and that showed in the fight,” Bradley said.
“I have got to hand it to my opponent who took some punishment but hung on in there so all credit to her.
“However I felt like I did what I needed to do to get the victory.”
Bradley said she would focus more on her footwork at crucial stages to help her finish the job off in future bouts.
“Looking back on learning points I would probably say for future reference I would step back a bit more and give myself some more space,” she said.
“Maybe I spoiled my work a bit sometimes, but it was that excitement of knowing you are nearly going to stop someone.
“It is not a feeling I have experienced much before, but I felt my fitness was good and I am feeling a lot better in myself.
“For the most part I could definitely feel my movement coming together.”
Bradley was due to face fellow welterweight Lauren Johnson for the Midlands female welterweight title, but her opponent picked up an injury in the build-up.
Bradley said she would continue to work hard and get ready for a potential re-scheduled bout in the future.
“Ideally we are looking at Lauren Johnson as she is in my weight category,” Bradley said.
“We were looking to get back out in April but I am not sure if she is going to be fit.
“In the meantime I will give my body a few days to recover and then get back in the gym and start perfecting those one or two things I feel I can improve on.”
