Primary school children in Newark and Sherwood enjoy festival at Newark Rugby Club




Newark Rugby Club hosted around 120 players in a tag rugby festival for schools who have been taking part in coaching sessions during the autumn term.

Led by the club’s veteran coach and player Richard Byrom, the coaching team have gone into nine schools at Winthorpe, John Hunt, Bishop Alexander, Coddington, Flintham, Farndon, Barnby Road, Holy Trinity and John Blow, Newark.

The festival follows eight weeks of coaching for children aged between nine and 11 in the schools and further sessions are planned after Christmas aimed at younger children.

A further festival will be held in March.

Last Thursday’s festival, with games played in a round-robin format, also saw coaches from the Leicester Tigers community scheme help out.
